Yes, it’s true I can’t support you with marketing your products and services, I don’t know the difference between a brand and a logo, colours baffle me, as do buying personas and typologies.
This is all marketing stuff and do you know what? I leave these to marketing experts (check out my work history and what I train and coach people in, it’s NOT marketing). “Marketing is the management process responsible for identifying, anticipating and satisfying customer requirements profitably.”
-The official academic definition from The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM).
Which brings me to the flip side of the coin, sales, selling, sales engagement, customer communication, understanding customers, developing trust, listening, questioning, understanding how to win a major customer, advanced selling techniques, the psychology of consumer behaviour, price versus value, service led selling, selling for non-sales people. All of these are sales based activity, these are the core of my experience and what we deliver at New Results, they are things I have researched, developed and done myself. It’s important you get the expert advice on whatever strand of your business you are focusing on. Look at the people who you want to work with and question their background and experience.
We work with a small range of marketing specialists who support us with our marketing needs (as well as referring clients to them). I don’t claim to be able to support you with marketing, so why do so many marketing experts tell you they can help with your selling? They are different techniques and approaches, understanding this will help you get better results from the people you work with. Look closely at the problems you are trying to fix, what part of the process is working and what could be improved? Imagine how powerful it will be when you have specialist marketing support helping you generate awareness (and interest) along with specialist sales support helping you convert that awareness (and interest) into sales and cash in the bank!
