Mark Crabtree

Background and experience:

Mark holds a degree in social psychology and sociology, a master’s qualification in human resource management, and certifications in coaching and workplace mediation. He has occupied senior HR and Organisation Development roles across the private, public, and higher education sectors.

With over 35 years of experience leading the development, management, and facilitation of engaging learning and organisation, leadership development strategies and initiatives, Mark enables organisations, leaders, teams, and individuals to reach their full potential and aim higher.

Coaching philosophy and coaching clients:

Mark supports a Gestalt approach that examines all aspects of a person’s life and experience to foster personal growth and greater self-awareness. The goal is to cultivate a sense of the whole person, not just the self within the organisation.

His background as a workplace mediator also enables him to establish a supportive and empathetic coaching relationship that offers a framework for exploring emotions, behaviours, and thinking patterns in a safe environment, thereby promoting healthy change.

Coaching style and approach:

Mark’s approach is client-centred, where the objectives and goals are created by and for the client to achieve transformational learning outcomes from the coaching relationship. He supports a non-directive approach that believes in the other person’s potential and ability to make the right choices for themselves, regardless of the coach’s own values, beliefs, and ideas.

His solution-focused approach involves focusing on solutions, strengths, and what’s going well, rather than problems, weaknesses, and what’s gone wrong.

By adopting this appreciative inquiry approach, he collaborates with the client to identify key strengths that can be celebrated and utilised to support transformational change.
